1907 1c Indian Head Cent PCGS MS 67 RD CAC & PhotoSeal OGH *Ex Stewart Blay*

$35,000.00

From the Stewart Blay collection of the most premium Red Indian Head Cents on the planet, we are honored to offer this incredibly preserved 1907 in PCGS MS 67 RD CAC & PhotoSeal. It lustrous orange surfaces resemble a sunset, which Stewart remarked as being one of his favorite aspect about collecting beautiful copper coins. Stewart was a renown sculptor and artist, working out of a studio in New York City & doing commissioned works. He had the artist's eye, which translated to his collection's premium eye-appeal. He wasn't a buyer of holders, he bought both eye-appealing & technically sound red coins, many of which were upgraded after his sale. He famously made a nuclear 100k bid for the finest-known 1877, the "Golden Princess," when it was offered raw by Stacks Bowers many years ago. His 100k bid didn't even win him the coin originally, but we eventually got the coin, where it sold for $340,000.

I had honor of being introduced to Stewart at a show a few months before his passing. He is not easy to impress and felt no qualms about critiquing some of my coins. However, one of the best ones I showed to him was, "just alright," which may have meant he actually liked the coin. His New York style sarcasm & quick whit were memorable, but even more was his generous spirit with the coin community.

1907 has proven to be one of the toughest dates at the end of the series to find in MS 67 RD, let alone with CAC certification or an Eagle Eye PhotoSeal. With one of the highest mintages of over 107 million example produced, you'd expect this example to be plentiful in high grades. However, there are only 6 graded MS 67 and 2 graded MS 67+. Among both grades, only two have received CAC approval, and one is a 67+ (also Ex Stewart Blay) that is in the finest set of Red Indians.

This coin is immersed in original mint luster with some crimson red toning on the peripheries. For accuracy, there is one tick on the cheek behind the nose & some very light spotting by the O in ONE on the reverse, attesting to the passage of time. However, these elements don't detract from the originality and superb preservation of such a difficult date. If you are looking to find a MS 67 RD with a CAC sticker, this is you only shot, with an even better provenance to boot. The Old Green Holder is fully-intact with no scratches or scuffs so you can easily view the coin.

This exact example sold at Great Collections in the original sale of Blay's collection in November, 2023 for $39,375 with Buyer's Premium, which is the auction record for a MS 67 RD. It is offered on here for less, and can be acquired directly on sublimecents dot com to skip the eBay fees.
